The basics

What is RingJini?

An AI call agent for your phone. When an unknown number calls, RingJini answers, finds out who it is and why they're calling, and uses your rules to decide: ring you with the reason on screen, deal with the call itself, or ring you at once because it's urgent.

How is it different from the call screening built into my phone?

Built-in screeners ask every caller the same question and hand the decision back to you. RingJini knows what you're waiting for, because you told it in your own words, and acts on it: it puts expected calls through, declines sales calls, takes messages and passes on your instructions to a courier.

What languages does it speak?

English, Hindi and Hinglish, including callers who switch mid-sentence. You choose which language callers hear first. Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali and Kannada are planned.

Does it work on Android and iPhone?

Android first: that's what the beta is on. iPhone follows once the iPhone build exists, and the sign-up form records which phone you have so we can tell you.

On iPhone the setup is different, because iPhones don't let apps decide what happens to each call. RingJini works with Apple's own Screen Unknown Callers setting instead; the iPhone page explains.

What does the beta cost?

Nothing. RingJini is free while it's in beta, and we'll tell you before anything changes. At launch there will be plans built on how many unknown calls RingJini handles for you each month; see pricing. Without a plan, every call simply rings as normal.

Setting it up

How can it answer my calls if apps can't listen to them?

No app can listen to a normal phone call. Instead, your network forwards unknown calls to RingJini's own number, where the AI answers. On Android, RingJini becomes your call screening app and holds back the unknown call on your phone so the network forwards it. Your contacts stay on your phone, and they ring as normal.

Which networks work today?

Forwarding is checked on real phones, one network at a time. Airtel works today. Jio and Vi are being tested, and the sign-up form records yours so we can tell you when it passes. BSNL isn't supported yet.

What does setup involve?

Sign in with your number, agree to the notice, pick your network, let RingJini screen calls on your phone, save the RingJini contact so you recognise its calls, and switch forwarding on. The app shows you each step and the codes it needs. The Android page walks through it.

Do I have to give up Truecaller or my caller-ID app?

You keep your phone app and your caller ID. On Android, only one app can be the call screening app at a time, so if another app does that today, you'll hand that job to RingJini during setup.

How do I stop using it?

Settings → Undo setup turns forwarding off and stops RingJini on your line. You can also pause screening for an hour, until tomorrow, or until you say so, from the Calls screen. Deleting your account removes everything RingJini keeps about your calls; see delete your account.

Calls

Will I miss important calls?

It's the number we watch most. When RingJini isn't sure, it rings you. Urgent calls are put through at once, and RingJini rings again if you miss them. If the same number calls twice within three minutes, the second call rings. And if you ever think a call should have rung, say so in the app and your rules learn from it. Our bar is no more than one missed important call per person per month.

Why does my phone ring for a moment before RingJini answers?

In the current beta build, an unknown call can ring for about five seconds before the network forwards it to RingJini. The next build holds the call back on your phone so it doesn't ring at all. Contacts are never affected.

What about calls from my bank?

Banks, insurers and brokers make service calls from 1600 numbers. TRAI says apps may not filter them, so RingJini never does: they reach you without screening.

And telemarketers on 140 numbers?

TRAI doesn't let apps filter registered telemarketing numbers either, so those reach you as they do today. Your network's Do Not Disturb settings are the way to stop them.

What happens with delivery calls?

Tell RingJini your standing instruction, like “leave it with the guard”, and it passes that on to the courier in their language. Your phone doesn't ring. Without an instruction, it takes a message.

What if I'm already on a call?

The network forwards the second call to RingJini, which screens it like any other. If it's one you'd want, RingJini rings you and you see a waiting call. If not, it's handled.

Callers and privacy

What do callers hear?

“Hi, this is RingJini, Ananya's AI assistant. This call is transcribed. Who's calling, and what's it about?”, with your name in place of Ananya's. RingJini says it's an AI assistant every time, and never pretends to be you.

Will it share my details?

No. It doesn't give out your address, schedule, OTPs, bank details or anything else about you, whatever the caller claims. A call that asks for those things is ended and marked as a scam, and you get a warning.

Are my calls recorded?

Screened calls are transcribed, summarised and kept in your call history until you delete them, so you can read what was said. Callers are told the call is transcribed. The privacy notice says what is kept, where, and for how long.

Can I delete things?

Yes. Delete one call, every call, or your whole account from the app, any time. Deleting your account removes everything RingJini keeps about your calls.

What if RingJini is down?

Your calls come straight through to you. RingJini is built to fail open: if anything on our side breaks, your phone rings as it always has. You never lose a call to an outage.
